Applications for day places are accepted in the August to November of the year prior to admittance, e.g. August to November 2017 for 2018 entry.
Applications for boarding places are accepted either in the year prior to entry (as above) or, in the case of 13+ entry, a Pre-Test can be sat two years prior to entry. Please see below.
Day Applications – 10+, 11+, 12+, 13+, 14+
Whitgift welcomes applications from parents of boys aged 10+, 11+, 12+, 13+ and 14+ who attend both independent and maintained schools. Although 10+, 11+ and 13+ are our main intake year groups, there are a limited number of places available to boys entering at ages 12+ and 14+.
There are opportunities to visit Whitgift during the Autumn Term by way of an Open Morning, Open Evening and a number of Open Afternoons. The Open Afternoons are by appointment only. Please click here for further information.
Applications should be submitted from mid-August to the end of November in the year prior to entering the School. These should be accompanied by any scholarship and bursary applications, if applicable. Once an application has been received, a reference will be requested from the student’s current school.
The Entrance Examination takes place in early January and parents are notified of exact timings in late December. Boys are invited in for the whole day, with lunch provided, and sit their examination in small groups. The Examination consists of tests in Mathematics, English and Verbal Reasoning for 10+, 11+ and 12+, while 13+ and 14+ applicants sit tests in Mathematics, English and Science. Section Française applicants will also sit a test in French and Ruta Hispana applicants will sit a test in Spanish. Those boys whose first language is not English may also be required to sit an examination in English as an Additional Language (EAL).
All boys who have performed sufficiently well in the Entrance Examination and who are being considered for an offer will be invited to Whitgift for an interview. In addition, those applicants who have been selected for scholarship consideration whether in Art/Design Technology and Engineering/Drama/Music/Sport, will be asked to attend an assessment/audition. Both interviews and scholarship assessments will take place towards the end of January. All boys who sit the Entrance Examination are automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship.
For 2018 entry, the application process begins on 14 August 2017, and the deadline date for submission of forms will be 30 November 2017. Please click here for key dates.
Day Applications – Sixth Form

In order to study a Science subject, an A*/A grade in GCSE Mathematics has been required.
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business or Sport and Exercise Science is also available for those candidates who are looking to pursue a top tier sporting career. In recent years both of these courses have required candidates to achieve five GCSE passes at A* to C grade, including Mathematics and English. For the Business course, candidates have been required to achieve an A* to B grade in Mathematics and English.
Applicants are invited to visit the school on Open Morning, Open Evening or a Sixth Form Open Afternoon. Open Afternoons are by appointment only. Please click here for further information.
