This year, Whitgift’s Charity Committee are pleased to announce they have selected the following two charities to support, from a list of submissions nominated by pupils and staff: The Magic Bus and Bees for Development.
The Magic Bus is based primarily in India, working to enable some of the world’s poorest families to escape poverty. Through their use of a mentoring model and sport-based curriculum, children are engaged in learning, and supported in their journey from childhood to livelihood, through better awareness, better life skills and better opportunities.
Bees for Development promotes sustainable beekeeping, in order to combat poverty and build a maintainable, resilient income. The charity supports beekeepers worldwide to maintain environments that are good for bees, for biodiversity and for people.
Whitgift’s Charity Committee will also seek to support a range of local charities through Duke of Edinburgh Award initiatives including: the gift bags for local homeless people at Christmas; collections for Syrian refugees, through Reverend Bayes and ‘Samara’s Aid Appeal’; and any other ad-hoc appeals that suit the requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Already this year, Whitgift First Formers raised a fantastic £864 in just one week of lunchtime-activities. We look forward to updating you further throughout the year, with our fundraising progress.
