Back in February, 12 of our Lower Third Form students, travelled to Zaragoza for their Spanish exchange with Montessori School.
During the week, the boys enjoyed various trips out with Whitgift teachers, experiencing some of the local sights. Highlights included the Plaza de Toros bullring, the Plaza del Pilar, the Roman Forum, the Puerto Venecia shopping centre, and an origami museum. The boys also had the opportunity to try their hand at a game of ‘padel’, as well as indoor climbing. Rishi Patel enthused, “It was great fun to experience the sites of this part of Spain…my experience with my family was great”.
Over the weekend, our Whitgift students experienced the ‘life of a local’, spending time with their host families. There was a wide range of activities, from meeting friends to visiting different parts of the Aragon region, for example, some went skiing in the Pyrenees and others had a day trip to Madrid.
Three weeks after the boys’ return, they welcomed their exchange partners back in England, taking their turn to host them for a week – spending time with them in the evenings, after the Spanish school went sight-seeing in London during the day. The Whitgift students learned a lot from the exchange, which was a valuable learning opportunity. Rishi summarised, “The whole experience was amazing and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to develop a better understanding of the Spanish lifestyle and, of course, practice their Spanish.”
Thanks to everyone both here, and in Spain, that helped make this trip such a success. Languages Teacher and Senior Housemaster, Mr Ben Morris, who organised the exchange commented, “This year’s exchange to Zaragoza was such a success! The Whitgift boys and their Spanish exchange partners gelled so well together, it was very pleasing to see so many happy faces throughout the trip. I hope next year is as good as this one because it really was special.”
