Whitgift’s U18s had reason to celebrate over the weekend by winning the National Schools Indoor Hockey Championship for the second year in a row.  In a repeat of last year’s final they played Surrey independent school, Cranleigh. Whitgift’s Head of Hockey, Karl Stagno, commented, ‘After a hard fought final we managed to keep our calm and win it on sudden death penalty flicks.’

Alistair Osborne, Director of Sport at Whitgift, added, ‘To win a senior national title once is an excellent achievement, to win it twice back-to-back is a rare event and the School, boys and coaches should be immensely proud.’

The Whitgift U16s also competed at the event and finished in the top four of their competition which was something to be proud of considering the team is extremely young with two Year 9s and four Year 10s in the starting line-up.
