It was a very good weekend for Whitgift fencing with U14, U16 and U18 victories - Caleb Watson, Tobi Ogunbode and Johan Arulnesan respectively – in the sabre event at the Surrey County Fencing Union Youth Championships. Whitgift’s run of medals didn’t end there with Vinith Elangovan and Billy Moffatt coming joint third in the U14 and Anthony de Souza third in the U16 sabre category.

Connor Head, although fencing in a higher age group, won a silver medal at U14 level in the foil category, and his brother Ian came third in the U16.

Head of Fencing, Pavel Rynes, commented, ‘These are very encouraging results reflecting the hard work our boys put into the training.’

The next challenge the boys are to face is the British Youth Championship, the final of which is being held in Sheffield in May.
