Year 11 Whitgift pupil, Tom Walters, was victorious at the inaugural Fives South-East Championships, held at Tonbridge School on Saturday 4th February. The teenager won the U16 singles competition and received the newly commissioned Wheeler Trophy.  Although he faced some tough opponents in the later rounds, Tom felt his background in squash, together with his ability to use his left hand better than his opponents, gave him the added advantage. The schoolboy, from Epsom Downs, has weekly Fives training sessions and is an all-rounder, participating in squash, hockey and cricket. His Fives victory has automatically qualified him for the National Championships which will be held at St Paul’s independent school in Barnes in April.
