On the 1st March, to mark World Book Day, Whitgift hosted K. J. Wignall, author of teen vampire novel, Blood. He was kind enough to give some lively creative writing sessions in which the boys were tasked to draft an introduction for a book, both good and bad. The latter examples raised a few laughs from both boys and author. Mr Wignall, whose books are attracting movie studio interest, later signed copies in the Raeburn Library and gave a reading from his novel. Year 9 pupil, Jacob McNair, attended the reading and greatly enjoyed being able to pick the author’s brain about the book, which Jacob classes as a ‘page-turner’.
Mr Wignall visited the School free of charge and asked for his travel and accommodation expenses to be donated to charity. SNAP, the children and young person’s special needs charity based at Whitgift, has been selected as the beneficiary of the donation.
Mr Wignall’s website sums up his visit to Whitgift: ‘…an inspiring school with some great and enthusiastic students’.
