On Friday 2nd March, Whitgift hosted its fourth Charity Comedy Night in support of our two chosen charities, Tapologo and Childreach International. After last year’s celebrity line-up, we knew it would be a tough task to emulate its sell-out success. However, a packed Concert Hall proved to be a fantastic venue with the comedians able to interact with – and pick on – even those who had not braved the front row of the audience.
Dom Holland returned to Whitgift after his absence last year and opened the show. As ever he was delightfully entertaining, cruelly singling out the Head Boy for teasing more than once. He was followed by Hal Cruttenden whose lively set showed why he has been recently nominated for a Chortle Award and has been named as ‘one to watch’ for 2012. The audience were delighted to welcome Bob Mills, a “true elder statesman of stand-up comedy”, for a risqué but riotous closing act. As well as being an excellent evening of entertainment, the event also raised over £1500 for two extremely worthwhile causes.
