Whitgift U14 fencer, Joshua Miller (pictured), achieved a promising result at the 2012 Public Schools' Fencing Championship, coming third in his competition. Considering that a hundred schools in total were competing in his Mount-Haes Epée category, this is no mean feat.

Whitgift came an impressive fifth overall in the competition, held at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre at the end of March, out of 105 schools in all age-groups combined.

The School’s fencing coach, Pavel Rynes, commented that, ‘It is a great achievement to be fifth in overall ranking among more than a hundred schools from Great Britain. In particular, I was pleased with the performance of our young fencers – there is much promise for future results.

Next on the horizon is the British Youth Championship finals in Sheffield, of which five Whitgift pupils have qualified.
