Whitgift School’s young cricketers have their sights set on victory in the U13 ESCA Bunbury National Cup, which would be their 7th win since 1998. Batting first on the South Croydon School's first-class ground, Essex school New Hall, from Chelmsford, kept the reigning champions under control with a meagre 46 scored out of the first 20 overs of a game restricted to just 30 overs per side. The composure of the Whitgift captain and fellow opener, Jamie Smith, was crucial as Whitgift had not lost a wicket. After a 30-minute rain break, Baxter and Smith then went to work dispatching New Hall to all parts of the ground, ably supported by Kieran Patel. A solid total of 160-for-7 resulted in a close game, until Baxter came onto bowl, taking 4 wickets to add to his 81. Whitgift are now through to the national final next week against west England champions, Twyford School from Hampshire. Whitgift coach, Will Challoner, commented,  “I was extremely impressed by the maturity and selflessness of the teams batting today, but credit must go to New Hall who were a strong, well-coached team and unlucky on the day to come up against a team on top of their form.”
