Norway Ski Touring Trip Easter 2016
During the first week of the Easter holidays, a group of boys headed out to Southern Norway to take part in the school’s first ever ski touring trip. Based on the Hardangervidda mountain plateau and centred near the town of Hovden, the boys had an incredible adventure and the memories will no doubt last forever.
Two days of training at the start of the trip enabled boys to learn the skills and techniques needed to thrive in the environment and soon; they were confidently skiing long distances in the countryside. After the training was complete, kit was loaded into backpacks and the group headed out into the stunning scenery in search of their overnight hut accommodation. On arrival, we were surprised to find the hut almost entirely covered in snow. Before long, the group had dug the hut out and were warm inside tucking into a well-earned dinner.
Over the next two days, the group skied across frozen lakes and summited local hills. The highlight of the trip was on the last night when the boys expertly dug snow holes and slept there while a snow storm blew past outside.
Probably the most rewarding and character building of all trips run within the department, this was a fantastic adventure with a wonderfully motivated group of boys.
