Michaelmas term saw the widest ever variety of speakers as part of the Academic Enrichment programme, as well as four excellent PRISM seminars on ‘Space’ and ‘Enlightenment’ from pupils and staff. Highlights have included Professor Meric Srokosz’s insightful and data-driven lecture on the impact of climate change on our oceans, ex-Olympian Derek Redmond’s inspirational talk on ‘Dealing with Adversity’, and Professor Richard Harvey’s culturally engaging exploration of artificial intelligence and its future.
Whitgift is fortunate to have also received a visit from Dr David Mitchell, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Philosophy at New College of the Humanities, who spoke on the virtues behind studying the Humanities, and we look forward to hearing from Professor A.C. Grayling, Master and Founder of NCH, when he visits to speak on ‘The Good Life’.
We’ve also welcomed students from Croydon High School this term, who have keenly participated in the Academic Enrichment lecture series for the first time. Whitgift students have also benefitted from being able to discuss their ideas with different pupils, who come with their own unique perspectives. We look forward to more exciting and horizon-broadening speakers over the course of the academic year.
