Well done to the U14A Rugby Sevens team who have had an unbeaten season. They progressed through the rounds of the QE 7s Boys Rugby Cup to face Berkhamsted School in the final, earlier in March. It was a hard-fought match, with Whitgift just having that extra bit of grit and determination to push the score to a victorious 25-22.

The squad won some fantastic matches along the way, with some impressive scores: The King’s School, Gloucester (45-0), City of London Freemen’s School (43-0) and Trinity School (61-0), in the early rounds. It was a Croydon derby for the quarter-finals, when they played John Fisher School (29-10) and then they faced Campion School (31-19), of Essex.

They followed up the QE 7s success with a winning run at Rosslyn Park, last week. They played nine games across the two days, defeating Uppingham School (38-12), Shrewsbury School (54-5), Gravesend Grammar School for Boys (29-21), St Peter’s School, York (40-7), Bedford School (15-12), Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital (36-7), John Fisher School (33-14), and rounding off with Millfield School in the semi-final (28-21) and Taunton School in the final, winning the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens title, 38-7. Well done to Liam Cobley, won the Akuma Player of the Day award.

Whitgift Coach, Mr Nick Martin, commented, “It has been a fantastic season for the boys - they have all worked so hard this year and have had memorable wins against Wellington College and Millfield. Their attitude has been very good and hopefully they can keep this going next year.”
