Whitgift was thrilled to welcome back England and Wasps player Elliot Daly, who visited the School on Wednesday 5 December 2018. Elliot, originally from Croydon, attended Whitgift from 2006 to 2011 after which he joined the Wasps Elite Player Development Squad before joining the Academy. He has featured in over 150 premiership matches and has played for England, most recently winning against Australia at Twickenham Stadium in November 2018.

After meeting Headmaster Chris Ramsey, Elliot spent time with the U16 rugby group and held a kicking clinic with some of the boys, sharing knowledge and working with them individually to improve their technique.

Fifth Former Connor Slevin commented, “It was inspiring to have Elliot come to Whitgift, and an even greater privilege for me to speak to him and learn about what he does at an elite level.”

In the afternoon, Elliot held a special Q&A for all of the First Form who were keen to ask him questions about his career and were overjoyed to jump into a group photo with Elliot at the end. It was clear from the expressions on the boys’ faces that they were elated to be given the opportunity to meet him.

Director of Sport, Mr Stuart Litchfield stated, “We were all delighted Elliot could visit us and it was great how much time he spent with the boys considering his busy schedule. We were also pleased to welcome Return2Play and learn about the work Elliot has been doing as their ambassador.”

Return2Play is a sports medicine company, dedicated to awareness of player welfare in the world of grassroot sport. Whitgift has been working with Return2Play (who’s company founders are Old Whitgiftians) since October 2018, with the purpose of delivering the highest standards of welfare to pupils. Thank you to Elliot and Return2Play for visiting the School, which for many of the boys and staff was a hugely memorable day.
