Spirits are high for the whole School after the U18 Rugby team played a tremendous game against Warwick for the Schools Cup final last week. The team have worked extremely hard this season, culminating in a semi-final against Marlborough College where they maintained a strong lead throughout the game.
With both Warwick and Whitgift having had great success in the history of the competition, it was clear it would be an exciting final. Highlights included some impressive performances from Captain Oliver Norris, Ben Fitzgerald and Aristot Benz-Solomon, with Whitgift securing the win following a last minute penalty taking the final score to 32-22.
A large screen set up in Big School especially for the final gave the opportunity for many of the boys to watch the game live, bringing the School together in camaraderie and jovial spirit. Old Whitgiftians and England rugby players also took the time to tweet from their accounts, congratulating the team on their success.
Director of Rugby, Chris Wilkins commented, “The squad have worked very hard and developed well as the season has progressed. It was good to see how resilient we were against Warwick and how we finished strongly in a very tough, tight game. The boys deserve a lot of credit for this and personally I would just like to thank all the coaches who have helped in their development as they have moved through the School.”
