Toby Seth
Toby Seth is Headmaster of Whitgift and is responsible to the John Whitgift Foundation and School Committee for the strategic direction and overall success of the School.
Educated at Dulwich College, Toby read Modern and Medieval Languages at Trinity College, Cambridge, before completing his PGCE at King’s College London and later earning a Master’s in Leadership in Education from the Institute of Education. He is an ISI inspector and Vice-Chair of the HMC Professional Development committee. He began his teaching career at Dulwich College in 2002, teaching Spanish and French, and subsequently held academic and leadership roles at Wellington College, The Godolphin and Latymer School, and The King’s School Macclesfield.
Toby’s first headship was at The Pocklington School Foundation in Yorkshire, where he served from 2019. During his tenure, he led the school through and out of the challenging years of the pandemic, fostering a warm and thriving community grounded in strong educational values, innovation, and high-quality pastoral care.
Beyond education, Toby has a wide range of cultural interests and is an enthusiastic sportsman, enjoying tennis, and skiing, and has previously coached an even wider range of activities.
His wife, Jessica, is also a languages teacher, and they have a teenage daughter and a son.
Executive Team
The Executive Team meets weekly to make decisions on operational matters and to review areas of school life to ensure alignment and progress with the vision. The Executive Team supports the Headmaster and consists of:
