Valencia Exchange 2017
In October, a group of Lower Fifth Form boys headed to Valencia for a popular Spanish exchange trip. Although initially apprehensive, they received a warm welcome and soon felt at home.
The first evening was a bowling night, which was a great opportunity for the students to meet, socialise and have fun. During the week there were several group trips around the city, including visits to the Old Town, the Oceanografic Aquarium, the City of Arts and Sciences, and Mestalla Stadium (home of Valencia Football Club), as well as more relaxed opportunities to play beach football and try local ice cream and churros.
Over the weekend, the boys spent time with their exchange families, improving their Spanish conversational skills by immersing themselves in Spanish culture and lifestyle. A variety of activities were enjoyed, such as go karting, horse riding and dining at traditional Spanish restaurants. Some boys were lucky enough to visit Mestalla Stadium to witness Valencia beat Sevilla 4-0.
Eoin Finn remarked “The exchange was a trip I will never forget. I thoroughly enjoyed it and my Spanish definitely improved - much to my parents’ amazement and delight! I would thoroughly recommend Whitgift’s Spanish exchange trip to everyone who studies Spanish”.
