Interviews

Students who are being considered for an offer will be invited to attend an interview with a Senior Member of staff. This conversation allows us to get to know your son as an individual — his interests, his aspirations and the qualities he brings both inside and outside the classroom.

Our students join us from all over the world, bringing with them a wide range of experiences: different curricula, languages, sporting talents, ambitions for medicine or Oxbridge, and many who are developing their English. Every student arrives with their own story and hopes for the future, and the interview is an important moment for us to understand who they are and to inform our decision.

Just as importantly, these meetings help families gain a real sense of the school — our values, our expectations and the community your son would be joining. We know that choosing the right school is a key decision, and we want this stage of the process to genuinely support families as they consider what is best for their child.

Following the student interview, parents or guardians will join the same Senior Member of staff for a short, relaxed conversation to ask questions and explore whether our school feels like the right fit for your family.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

If English is not the first language spoken at home, boys may be required to sit an EAL exam paper. This will be decided in consultation with the Head of EAL.

Whitgift's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision is designed to support neurodiverse students as well as those with specific needs that require additional support, whatever their nature.

Sixth Formers with neurodiverse profiles are supported by the Year team, subject teachers and monitored closely individually if required; if they need dedicated support with their Executive Functions the Learning Support department provide bespoke support for them.

Applicants with specific learning difficulties may be supported with exam concessions and access arrangements, and any requests will be assessed by our Head of Learning Support in line with JCQ guidelines.

If your son receives Learning Support at his current school, we require additional documentation from you.  This will help us to determine what (if any) exam concessions we can provide for your son, and to ensure that Whitgift has all of the appropriate resources to meet your son's learning support needs.

Required Documents:

1. EHCP (Education Healthcare Plan) and/or specific written recommendations from a qualified professional (e.g. Educational Psychologist report/diagnosis from an HCPC registered psychologist, Consultant or a specialist teacher). This report must be dated within 3 years.

2. A supporting letter from your son's current school confirming the current exam concessions your son receives.  If you are applying for Sixth Form, we require a JCQ Form 8 from your son's current school.

You will need to upload these documents as a part of the required documents section of the school application form.
