BBC studios head and OW Tim Davie has been appointed as the BBC’s 17th Director General in September when Lord Tony Hall steps down.
Davie attended Whitgift on a scholarship from 1980 – 1985 and went on to study Literature at the University of Cambridge. He began his career in Marketing working for Proctor and Gamble and Pepsi, where he rebranded their packaging.
Davie has 15 years of experience at an executive level within the BBC and has been a trustee for the charities BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief, the latter of which he also chaired.
Chairman of the BBC David Clementi said, “We know that the industry is undergoing unprecedented change and the organisation faces significant challenges as well as opportunities. I am confident that Tim is the right person to lead the BBC as it continues to reform and change.”
Hall said, “I’m delighted that Tim has been appointed. He is a fantastic leader. I wish him every success for the future. I know that the BBC are in safe hands.”
Tim said that he was ‘honoured’ to get the BBC’s top job.
