OW Major General Neil Sexton CB retires after 35 years' service

Major General Neil Sexton CB (OW, 1978-85) recently retired from his position as the Army’s Director of Engagement & Communications after 35 years’ service in the Army. In his role most recent role, General Sexton represented the Army in Whitehall and was responsible for communicating the Army’s purpose and key messages, strengthening ties with international partners, and championing the Army’s approach to Prosperity.

He was commissioned into the Army Air Corps in 1990 and, following a cavalry attachment which included The Gulf War, has held a wide variety of aviation appointments including command of the UK’s first attack helicopter regiment and being professional head of Army Aviation from 2013-15.

General Sexton has been an instructor at both The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Joint Services Command and Staff College. Being the Army’s Director of Engagement & Communication was General Sexton’s fourth communications role, having previously deployed to Iraq in Media Operations, been the Senior Army Press Officer in the MOD Directorate of Media and Communications and Head Engagement and Communications on the Army Staff in the MOD. 

In June this year, General Sexton was appointed as a Companion to the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of The Bath (CB) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. 

General Sexton remains Assistant Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Corps, and Honorary Colonel of Sheffield University Officer Training Corps.

General Sexton has been long-term supporter of Whitgift’s CCF and conducted its annual general inspection in 2014. All at the School are grateful for General Sexton’s support and wish him all the best.
