School Captain starts Sc.B. at Brown University

School Captain, Zain Peerbhoy (2013 – 20) begins a BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Ivy League University, Brown.

Heavily involved in extracurricular activities during his time at Whitgift, Zain praised Whitgift staff for the support he received.

Zain commented, “US university applications are significantly longer and more complex than the UK application process. Through early dialogue with the Sixth Form and higher education teams, I had a clear formulated plan for my application process.”

Chris Ramsey (Headmaster), Fiona Bedford (Head of Upper Sixth Form) and Mark Brown (Senior Tutor) were the three most influential staff members in supporting the application process, Zain explained.

Brown was one of ten US universities Zain applied for, with a career in Medicine as the end goal, an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology was an “easy choice” as it allows Zain to not only fulfil his requirements for medical school but also “delve further into my STEM passions including immunology, Chemistry and cell biology”.

Alongside his Biochemistry and Biology Major, Zain also has the opportunity to pick additional courses that Brown offers, this term he has opted for Economics and Public Health and plans to select language courses in the future.
Situated in Providence, Rhode Island, between Boston and New York, Zain looks forward to connecting with Old Whits not only in New York but also along the East Coast.

“I am excited to meet those from Whitgift who attended Brown before me and be part of a growing vibrant community of international alumni.”
