A Celebration of Shakespeare by Whitgift’s Second Form

A Celebration of Shakespeare by Whitgift’s Second Form

Whitgift’s Second Form recently delivered a vibrant Junior Shakespeare Performance Evening, led by Mrs Ruck and Mr Hodge (Teachers of English). Across a series of lively 20 minute retellings of Shakespeare’s most beloved classics, students brought the timeless stories to life with energy, imagination, and enthusiasm.

Approximately 20 students contributed to each performance, meaning every individual played a meaningful role, whether performing on stage, joining the chorus, designing stage sets, crafting lighting or musical elements, or supporting as co-directors. This collaborative approach highlighted that Shakespeare is meant to be performed, seen, and interpreted, not simply read.

The performances were the culmination of the Half Term English curriculum, with rehearsals in both English and Drama lessons that deepened pupils’ understanding of Shakespeare while developing interpersonal skills and strengthening teamwork.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by parents, teachers, and students alike. Moments of humour and intensity captivated the audience and demonstrated the remarkable dedication from everyone involved.
