A Celebration of Whitgift Life

At the end of Trinity Term, the Whitgift Sports Hall was once again transformed into a vibrant stage for the annual Celebration of Whitgift Life (CoWL), a cherished tradition marking the culmination of the academic year. Students, staff, parents and governors gathered to reflect on the School’s many achievements and celebrate the individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Whitgift community. 

Guests were welcomed by a brass ensemble outside the Sports & Conference Centre before taking their seats for a morning of reflection and celebration. The event opened with a striking performance by the Corps of Drums, followed by an introduction from Nick Edwards, Chair of Governors and Old Whitgiftian (1985–1992). The audience then heard from Josh Grante Halliday, Lower Sixth Former and Whitgift’s incoming School Captain for 2026–27, who spoke with confidence and gratitude, setting an inspiring tone for the year ahead. 

This year’s guest of honour and keynote speaker was The Rt Hon. Lord Freud, Old Whitgiftian (1961–1968) and Chair of Whitgift For All, whose address highlighted the enduring values and opportunities that define the Whitgift experience. 

The ceremony continued with the presentation of prizes and a series of interludes highlighted the breadth of Whitgift’s creative talent. Actors from the Junior production of Peter Pan and the Senior production of Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical recreated memorable scenes from their wonderful performances. Complementing these dramatic highlights was the annual sports video montage, celebrating the many achievements, successes and memorable moments enjoyed by Whitgift students throughout the academic year. 

As the School community reflected on another remarkable year, the event served as a fitting conclusion to the academic year and, notably, to Headmaster, Mr Toby Seth’s first year at Whitgift.
