A Level students were welcomed back to Whitgift’s Haling Park site to collect their results today. Students, many of whom were accompanied by their parents, were able to celebrate their significant achievements with some of the teaching staff who have supported them during their time at school.
This year 82% of grades were A*/A, and nearly 90% of the A Level students in this year’s cohort achieved grades for their first choice university. The grades were robustly and carefully calculated, and the results are a great tribute to the students’ hard work and their attitude to these uniquely difficult circumstances. The past 18 months have been some of the most testing for the 2021 cohort - they have had to cope with uncertainty as well as being required to adapt and learn in different ways, locations and using new tools.
BTEC students in Business and Sports achieved some excellent results this year. Working independently is a significant part of the BTEC Extended Diploma, and the students achieved exceptional results, due to their hard work and perseverance. Distinction grades are not easy to achieve, but almost all students were awarded the top grades, and whilst there was a system in place for Teacher Assessed Grades, the majority of work was completed and assessed under normal conditions. These students will also be taking places at some prestigious universities.
Chris Ramsey, Headmaster of Whitgift commented, “This year reflects a unique set of grade outcomes and given this backdrop, their hard work and perseverance, combined with support and dedication of their teachers has meant their results reflect their significant achievements. We wish every one of them luck as they pursue their chosen paths to university or apprenticeships.”
The Headmaster and staff warmly congratulate the students on their efforts which have led to success – we are all very proud of them.
