Whitgift celebrates British Science Week

Whitgift was buzzing with excitement as British Science Week brought science to life with a packed schedule of interactive events and inspiring talks.

The week kicked off with a bang on Monday with an explosive Blast Zone featuring giant hydrogen balloon explosions and smoke cannons. Sixth Formers also tested their skills in a Photovoltaic Current Detection competition.

Tuesday’s student-led science talks sparked curiosity and debate, with Ethan exploring the complexities of Chaos Theory and Zach discussing the fascinating plausibility of Dyson Spheres.

Wednesday was all about nature and adaptations. The Animal Club session focused on camouflage, with Teddy the dog and his pals donning their best camouflage gear for the Horticultural photobooth — a definite highlight!

Thursday featured Hovercraft Bowling and an insightful talk from Markos Trichas (Head of Secure Space & Key Accounts at BAE Systems) on the role of space in modern military strategy.

The week wrapped up on Friday with Toryn Whitehead (OW and PhD candidate at KCL) delivering a fascinating talk on “Guerilla Rewilding” — exploring how beavers are making a comeback and whether wolves could be next.

A huge thank you to all our speakers and participants for making British Science Week such a success!
