The School Minibuses have been put to excellent use whilst Whitgift has been closed to the majority of pupils. Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA) is a membership organisation providing leadership and support to groups, residents and communities in Croydon. They are the main coordination point for food bank deliveries for the whole of the Croydon area and Whitgift, through the work of our Director of Partnership & Community, Mr Marlow, has been pleased to offer place a team of drivers and up to three minibuses at their disposal.
Deliveries have included helping out local Schools who highlight their vulnerable families or those who are shielding and might have been reliant on the daily school meals. On other occasions there have been surpluses of food that have been shared with the community that would have otherwise gone to waste. Several members of staff have been supporting the initiative, with up to three minibuses a day on offer to CVA to be directed as required. Mr Chisholm is now coordinating the calls and helping to schedule volunteer drivers.
Mrs Goveia who works in the Admissions Team said, "I was originally called to collect from a church in Croydon who had a food and toiletries collection from their parishioners which needed to be taken back tot he main CVA hub. On arrival I was informed that 3 families in Croydon, Selsdon and Norbury needed food parcels to be able to eat that day and I was asked if I could do some doorstep drop offs. Obviously I was delighted to do anything I could to get food to these families. It is great to be able to feel helpful during these challenging times."
Mr Hill, who works as part of the Audio Visual team at Whitgift said, "It feels fantastic to be involved in something that is helping the wider community outside of Whitgift. The appreciation of our help from those donating and receiving sums it up really."
The deliveries have continued over the Easter weekend with Mr Norris making twelve deliveries in total (see video clip below).
