House Drama 2024

House Drama 2024

The annual House Drama competition took place on Thursday 10 October 2024 in the Performing Arts Centre with each House presenting a monologue or duologue and a group performance.

This year's competition was judged by Simon Gleaves (associate director of Flabbergast Theatre) whose extensive background in physical theatre and movement-based storytelling offered a fresh perspective. Simon has worked with renowned companies such as Complicite, DV8, and Gecko Theatre and is also part of the core company for ‘Creating a Monster’, a non-profit focusing on mental health and creativity through physical theatre.

All eight Houses participated with energy and creativity, delivering performances that highlighted the students’ talents both individually and collectively.

After a series of impressive performances, the results were announced. Smith’s House took 1st place, winning praise for their engaging portrayals of A Christmas Carol and Dracula. Cross’s House secured 2nd place with their rendition of The Wind in the Willows, alongside a standout performance of Ivanov by Nicholas. Dodd's and Brodie's Houses shared 3rd place, both demonstrating commendable teamwork and focus in their group performances.

In addition, two new awards were introduced this year: Marcos from Brodie’s House won Best Leadership and Direction for his role in Hello, my name is..., while Nicholas of Cross's House earned Best Solo Performance for his compelling portrayal of the title role in Ivanov.

Mr Hammond (Director of Drama) remarked "House Drama was another closely fought competition with Smith's emerging victorious. Visiting judge Simon Gleaves praised the overall quality of the performances, but particularly the maturity and sophistication of Otto's performance for the winning house.”

Congratulations to all the students who took part, with a special mention to Smith’s for winning.
