Impressive contributions to House Music 2022

House Music 2022

The annual House Music competition took place last week, and had an excellent variety of performances. The guest adjudicator, Director of Music at St Dunstan’s College, Mr Dominic Oldfield, was incredibly impressed with the contributions in this student-led event. He highlighted in his closing comments that he felt there was a strong mixture of performers, and he was astounded by the talent at Whitgift.

All eight House performances were led by an accompanied or unaccompanied soloist, followed by a large ensemble and it was wonderful to see a mixture of the young and the more senior students on stage together.

The House Music cup was eventually won by Ellis’s. The strong opening performance of Massenet’s Méditation from Thaïs by Lucian (violin) and Jerry (piano) was very polished, and the adjudicator was extremely impressed by the dynamic range and the phenomenal understanding between the two musicians. The ensemble performed Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and was also very well thought out in his view. He particularly liked the mixture of orchestral and electric instruments and praised Bakari’s vocals.

Senior Housemaster, Mr Morris commented, “Congratulations to all of the boys involved, and well done to Ellis’s.”

The final positions were as follows:

1st Ellis’s

2nd Cross’s

3rd Brodie’s

4th Andrew’s

5th = Tate’s, Smith’s, Mason’s and Dodd’s
