Whitgift’s Hockey teams delivered an outstanding performance at the ISHC National Finals, with the U13s and 1st XI both crowned National Champions.
After winning all their Semi Finals, the U13s and U18s claimed the ISHC National Title, demonstrating their skill and determination on the biggest stage. The U15s fought hard against Repton in a closely contested final but narrowly missed out, finishing as runners-up after a tense penalty flick shootout.
This remarkable achievement means the 1st XI has completed the ‘Treble’ once again—winning the Indoor and Outdoor National Titles along with the ISHC National Finals. This incredible feat, first achieved by Whitgift last year, had never been done before by any school. To repeat it in back-to-back seasons is truly historic.
Notably, 16 of the 1st XI squad joined Whitgift in Years 6-8, with 10 having never picked up a hockey stick before arriving. Six came from hockey families, having some prior experience, while three players joined in the Sixth Form.
Reflecting on their success, Dr Stagno (Director of Hockey) said “The senior boys have continued where last year's team left off! They have been exemplary, always putting the School first since they joined as young 11-year-olds. It's been a fantastic journey for them, and one that I am so blessed to be part of.”
Adding to the success, the U13s have now secured back-to-back ISHC National Championships, further cementing Whitgift’s reputation as a dominant force in school hockey.
A huge congratulations to all the players and coaches on this incredible achievement!
