Whitgift School achieves record results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma

Andrew Quadrangle

With 98% of all Higher Level IB grades at levels 7-5, Whitgift’s class of 2025 set a new school record.

Congratulations to the 28 Upper Sixth Formers who received their impressive IB results this weekend.

This summer, Whitgift boys achieved an average score of 38.9 points out of a maximum score of 45. For comparison, last year the equivalent figure at the School was 37 points, and the international average is around 30 points.

This year, boys achieved a record 98% of all Higher Level grades at 5, 6 or 7 – equivalent to A*-B at A Level. No boy gained below a 4 in any subject, and every boy gained his diploma. Five gained 44 points out of the maximum possible score of 45.

A note from the headmaster to all IB boys

Well done, boys – and I mean every single one of you, even if at the moment some of you are worried about university positions. That is totally normal and will gradually sort itself out in ways that may be hard to imagine right now.

I have never known an IB, A Level or GCSE results day which does not create a spectrum of emotions. IB results especially can be difficult because it can take another six weeks before Clearing outcomes are clear.

The thing to do now is tell your preferred universities you are still super-keen and explain any aspect of your results that will help you make the case. You also need to get the School’s advice and, if you then want to do so, to put in for some re-marks, knowing that a grade can go down, as well as up.

Other than that, feel proud of all you have achieved at Whitgift, stay in touch with any of us if you think we can help, and remember that however wonderful or otherwise your IB scores are, there will always be infinitely more to you than your exam results!
