The final of the singing competition was a fantastic event to mark the end of the Lent Term, providing the competition finalists a welcome opportunity to sing live in the Concert Hall. The quality of singing and vocal repertoire chosen by the students was a diverse showcase of Whitgift talent and kept Head of Keyboard, Mr Lane on his toes, with a transition of music ranging from Beyoncé to Handel!
For the students, this was their first chance to perform in front of a live audience, both in-person (albeit limited) and virtual, in over a year. The Music Department has continued to offer such opportunities, as they provide a platform for those hard hours of practice to be brought to fruition.
The final was adjudicated by Teacher of Drama, Mr Wilson for the Junior class and Jon Stainsby, who visited the School as our guest adjudicator for the Intermediate and Senior class. Jon graduated from the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and studied English at University of Cambridge. He has a varied musical career and has appeared in many operatic roles, ranging from the baroque to the contemporary.
A massive thank you to Mr Soriano for co-ordinating the event, to our adjudicators Mr Wilson and Jon Stainsby and to our AV Team who helped make this event possible. Well done to all the singers who entered the competition and congratulations to the winners of each class; Theeran (First Form), Bakari (Fourth Form) and Damola (Lower Sixth Form).
