Maths Afternoon for Primary School students

Primary School Maths Afternoon

Last week, Whitgift invited 64 Year 5/6 pupils from eight local primary schools for an afternoon of stimulating and challenging advanced mathematics activities, led by our Lower Sixth Further Mathematicians. The activities were designed to stretch pupils and give them access to mathematical ideas and techniques they would not usually encounter.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and accompanying staff also benefitted from exposure to secondary school mathematics. The School had some wonderful feedback from them:

The recent Maths afternoon that our able mathematicians attended was really well received. They loved the challenges set and enjoyed working with different children. Sharing the expertise is also great for the teachers that accompany the children.’ - Aerodrome Primary Academy.

Other schools also mentioned how much they enjoyed the experience on Twitter:

‘Stimulating, challenging and something to really get your brain going! Thank you @WhitgiftSchool1 for having us.’ – Harris Primary Academy Haling Park

‘8 Year 6s have enjoyed a maths puzzle afternoon at @WhitgiftSchool1. Thank you to the Sixth Formers for running a challenging rotation of activities!’ - St Peter's Primary School

Thank you to all the students for volunteering and to all the Primary Schools that joined us for a wonderful afternoon.
