National Mathematical Olympiad Gold Honours

National Mathematical Olympiad Gold Honours

Each year, more than 200,000 students across the UK take part in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. From this exceptionally large field, around 1,800 students qualify for the prestigious Cayley, Hamilton and Maclaurin Mathematical Olympiads. Only the top 20 scorers nationwide in each Olympiad are awarded Gold medals, making this one of the highest individual honours available at intermediate level mathematics.

This year, Ethan (Third Former) achieved a Gold medal in the Cayley Olympiad, and Sasha (Fifth Former) achieved a Gold medal in the Maclaurin Olympiad. The gold medal is awarded to the top 20 scorers in the country and therefore a highly prestigious award. In addition, Sasha earned the top score in the Greater London region. These results place both students amongst the very strongest young mathematicians in the country. Their success reflects not only outstanding problem-solving ability, but also perseverance, and mathematical creativity. These achievements are a tremendous credit to both the students themselves and to the strength of the school’s mathematics programme.
