Old Whitgiftian Vansh Jani has taken a major step in his cricketing journey, signing his first professional contract with Warwickshire County Cricket Club (CCC). This exciting milestone follows a series of outstanding performances in the Second XI, where he has consistently impressed with his skill, and composure at the crease.
Vansh joined Whitgift in 2017 and completed his Sixth Form studies in 2023. A graduate of the Whitgift Cricket Academy, he was an influential figure in numerous cup-winning teams, finishing his school life with an impressive 1,698 runs for the First XI. His technical ability, flair, and dedication to the game marked him as a standout player from an early stage.
Since leaving Whitgift, Vansh has continued to progress through strong performances in Australian grade cricket, the Middlesex Cricket League, and MCCU cricket. His recent form has been exceptional, with multiple centuries in the Second XI County Championship (SACA & Warwickshire), including an unbeaten 159 against Yorkshire Seconds and a rapid 122 not out against Worcestershire Seconds. These displays of form and maturity earned him a well-deserved opportunity with Warwickshire CCC.
Ian Westwood, Warwickshire’s First Team Coach, praised Vansh’s development and potential, noting his adaptability across formats and his hunger to succeed.
“Vansh has shown he has the temperament and technique to thrive at the professional level.”
Reflecting on his signing, Vansh expressed his gratitude and excitement:
“It’s been my dream to be a professional cricketer, so to get this chance with a great club like Warwickshire is incredible. I can’t wait to get started and am looking forward to seizing whatever opportunities come my way this season. I’m grateful to the staff and cricket programme at Whitgift who have played such a major role in my development. I have great memories of my time at the school and keep regular contact with OW’s and programme.”
Vansh’s journey from Whitgift to the professional arena is a testament to his hard work and the strong cricketing foundation laid during his school years. His former coaches and teammates at Whitgift will no doubt be watching with pride as he embarks on this exciting new chapter.
