The Spectacular Sounds of the Masquerade

Fairfield Halls came alive with the vibrant sounds of The Masquerade, as Whitgift's musicians delivered a spectacular celebration of orchestral and choral performance. The morning concert introduced more than 1,000 primary school pupils to the excitement of live orchestral music, while the evening performance welcomed families, staff and guests from across the Whitgift community. 

Opening with a stirring performance by the Whitgift Corps of Drums, the concert showcased the breadth and ambition of the School's music programme. Whitgift's principal ensembles presented a diverse repertoire, from the technical demands of Shostakovich's First Piano Concerto and excerpts from Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring to contemporary favourites including Theme from The Traitors, Giants in the Sky from Into the Woods and Man in the Mirror. 

Collaborations with pupils from Cumnor House and Elmhurst School added to the celebratory atmosphere, before the evening concluded with a spirited performance of Masquerade by the entire First Form choir accompanied by the Big Band, bringing a memorable concert to a fittingly uplifting close.
