The World School Swim Championships 2022

On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May, 20 Whitgift students competed in The World School Swim Championships 2022. Young swimmers from across the globe descended on the iconic London Aquatics Centre, following in the footsteps of Olympic heroes.

The students swam fantastically and over the two-day event, they accumulated an astonishing 24 Gold medals, 20 Silver medals, and 14 Bronze medals, thus becoming Champions in the overall Boys U13/U15/U18 age groups.

A massive congratulations to Fourth Former, Alex Corver for winning the U15 Boys 50m Breaststroke and set a new WSG Event Series World Record of 29.46 seconds. Alex commented, “It’s a new short course personal best for me. My long course PB is 29.70 so there’s not much between the two times. It feels amazing to be representing my school at international level. It’s been such a great event! I’d like to thank the staff members who’ve been really supportive.”

Head of Aquatics Mr Smith summarised the event; “Over the course of a long weekend, the team performed exceptionally well, gaining some great PBs, and to call ourselves The World School Swim Champions is amazing. I’ve been so proud of what this team has achieved over the academic year, it shows that hard work and dedication pays off!”
