Whitgift has been announced as the Independent School of the Year for Community Outreach 2022 at the Independent School of the Year Awards 2022.

Collecting the award on behalf of the School was Mr Marlow, Director of Partnerships and Community who said, “I was delighted to accept the award on behalf of all the staff and student volunteers and would like to thank them and also those who have supported financially through donations to the School’s charity, Whitgift For All. We have come a long way with our links within the community over a few short years and are excited about evolving our programme in the coming years.”

A combination of the 22-year-old Primary Project, which invites children from local Primary schools to Whitgift for one week of exciting lessons, and welcomes over 1000 children each year, and the Whitgift Community Summer School which takes place for two weeks each summer, were vital components of the award submission. Students at Whitgift are actively involved in the running of both programmes. Additionally, they volunteer at local schools and teach Saturday masterclasses at Whitgift for local Year 5 girls and boys who have been put forward by their Headteachers.

The judges commended Whitgift not only for its full and interesting programme of community action, but also for measuring the impact on the pupils that attended the sessions.

The School is delighted to be able to celebrate this independent recognition and thanks everyone involved, particularly the local pupils who participate so actively in these programmes and help make our community richer for their involvement and enthusiasm.
