Weekend Activities

Founder’s House ensures that weekend activities are varied, engaging, and enriching. Our boarders benefit from a diverse programme of activities, ensuring they gain the fullest experience and value from their time at Whitgift, while supporting their social, academic, and personal development.

All individuals are encouraged to participate in co-curricular sport throughout the weekend. With more than 30 sports available, every student can shape their own sporting journey, whether they prefer relaxed, social participation or aspire to compete at a more advanced level. Our state-of-the-art facilities, including basketball and badminton courts, a gym, a swimming pool, and the music school, are open throughout the weekend, enabling students to pursue their individual interests at their own pace.

On Sundays, regular outings take place, ranging from visits to London’s museums and theatres to more adventurous activities such as go-karting, climbing, and mini golf. Third and Fourth Form students follow a structured schedule of trips, while Fifth and Sixth Form students have greater independence to organise activities with friends. With a location just 25 minutes from central London by train, Fifth and Sixth Formers can conveniently explore the city.

Quiet study areas are available throughout the house, offering a supportive environment for academic consolidation. Sixth Form students and staff are on hand to provide guidance for anyone wishing to deepen their understanding or reinforce their learning.

The newly refurbished common room kitchen serves as an ideal space for developing culinary skills, from baking treats to preparing homemade pizzas. Cookery also fosters creativity, independence, and collaboration as students share their creations with friends. The house offers a range of communal and recreational spaces where boarders can relax and unwind. At weekends, students frequently enjoy playing pool, table tennis, card games, video games, or watching films together.

As with weekday meals, weekend meals are served in the main school dining room, with brunch at 10:00 a.m. and dinner at 6:00 p.m. Sandwiches are provided in the house at lunchtime, and students may also choose to visit South Croydon to purchase food. Additionally, they have the option to order takeaways fortnightly at their own expense.
