Productions

The heart of a pupil’s experience of Drama at Whitgift is participating in school productions.  It is not just a fun extra curricular activity; it is an invaluable experience with countless educational and developmental benefits.

At Whitgift we strive for the highest possible performance standards, working with our world class technical team to produce performances that will inspire, inform and challenge our students as theatre makers and audience members. We strive for as varied a programme as possible with five full scale productions taking place over the course of the year, as well as a House Drama event. Each Year group has at least two performances to take part in, with the principle being that, should they want to, a Whitgiftian can always be rehearsing for a play. We chose our productions carefully to ensure that each provides a different experience and that our actors, designers, and technicians are constantly being exposed to new styles, techniques, themes and ideas.

Work on Whitgift productions helps students to develop crucial skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Theatre is a highly collaborative art form that requires performers and crew members to work together closely and communicate effectively in order to create a successful production. Students who participate in theatre gain experience in teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution, which are all valuable skills that will serve them well in any future career or academic pursuit.

Additionally, theatre allows students to explore their creativity and express themselves in a unique and meaningful way. Through performance, students can develop their emotional intelligence and empathy, as they learn to inhabit different characters and understand different perspectives. This kind of emotional development can have a profound impact on a student's personal growth and can help them become more well-rounded and empathetic individuals.
