Senior Productions

Senior productions customarily come in two shapes and sizes: flagship epics featuring large casts drawn from the senior year groups of the school, and more intimate shows which are chosen to explore topics of particular interest to older teenagers, or darker themes which are perhaps inappropriate for younger pupils. It is important that these shows demonstrate the very best that Whitgift can do, that they stretch cast and crew as theatre makers, and that they inspire audiences with their quality and eloquence.

It is also important that senior productions are a place where the school can explore difficult issues and have shared conversations around subjects of importance to the school and the wider community. Recent shows have included Tennesse Williams’ dark masterpiece Not About Nightingales, Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Macbeth, as well as an original play commissioned from an early career playwright for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, When It Rains.

Senior productions also feature female performers and crew from WAVPA (the Whitgift Academy of Visual and Performing Arts) and Old Palace of John Whitgift School, Croydon who add to the diversity and spirit of community that surround these shows, as well as their considerable talents.
