Basketball

Whitgift is home to one of London’s leading school basketball programmes, with more than 200 pupils involved and approximately 150 fixtures played each year. Competing in a range of prestigious competitions, Whitgift teams consistently perform at a high level, maintaining an impressive 70% win rate.

The programme offers a comprehensive fixture schedule, providing valuable competitive opportunities for pupils of all abilities, while training sessions run before school, at lunchtime and after school, ensuring Basketball is accessible to all who wish to take part.

Led by Head of Basketball, Mr Krammer, a former semi-professional player from Austria who currently competes in the London Metropolitan League Premier Division, the programme benefits from a team of experienced coaches, all of whom have played, or continue to play, club-level basketball.

Over the past decade, Whitgift has achieved success at both Regional and National level. The U12s and U13s teams have consistently progressed to the Jr. NBA Final Four, winning the Regional title in 2025 and 2026. The programme has also celebrated Croydon Cup success across U14s, U15s and U16s age groups.

In the Basketball England National Schools Competition, Whitgift reached the U19 National Final in 2018/19, the U16 National semi-final in 2024/25, and has made five National Quarter-final appearances since 2018.

Four Old Whitgiftians pursued basketball careers in the United States, including Alex Pavel at IMG Academy and William Henderson at Northfield Mount Hermon School. Former NCAA Division I player, Joshua Uduje earned a place on the San Antonio Spurs NBA Summer League roster before signing professionally with Boulazac Basket Dordogne in France's top division. Both Joshua Uduje and Myles Alcindor have represented England and Great Britain at International level.
