The School provides an enjoyable programme, allowing students to develop their skills and become hardworking, honest team players.
With 28 teams across the School ranging from A to F, Rugby at Whitgift offers all pupils, at all levels the experience to be well coached and have a challenging set of fixtures. The aim is to inspire all students to play Rugby after they leave the School, either at University or at Club level, and feel that the values learnt through the sport serves them well in all areas of life.
The School offers regular senior tours enabling the teams to bond effectively and the junior training camps provide a platform for students to gain and develop core values and playing principles.
Experienced and passionate coaches, including players from the National Leagues, academy and divisional set up, are an asset to the development of the pupils Rugby skills. The programme offered provides all students with a wide-ranging access to an array of coaching sessions, team practices, strength and conditioning sessions, skills clinics and summer holiday sessions.
The School’s fixture card sets out to challenge all participants with some of the strongest oppositions in the country, including Sedbergh, Wellington, Harrow, Millfield and Dulwich. Similarly, the School has established strong links with the local academies such as, Harlequins, London Irish, Saracens and Wasps. This has allowed Rugby teams at Whitgift to excel in National Schools Competitions over the past decade, winning the Senior Competition on three occasions and the U15 Cup twice.
Whitgift students frequently progress on to professional Rugby careers. Currently, ten OWs are playing within England’s top-flight, with Elliot Daly representing England in the recent World Cup Final.
What an incredible opportunity to visit and play Rugby in Dubai, and to do so with all their friends. So much effort had clearly gone into making sure the boys had fun, both on and off the pitch... they certainly did have the time of their lives!
