Whitgift Environment
Whitgift's sector leading facilities are continuously advancing, including the pioneering use of two 'hybrid' pitches, with more in the pipeline. The exceptional grounds, highlighted by immaculate cricket pitches in summer, underscore the prioritisation and value placed on sport for every Whitgiftian.
The Whitgift Sports & Conference Centre opened in 2005 and was designed by Dutch company Pellikaan. This sector-leading, multi-faceted facility allows pupils to have numerous opportunities in one place, for sports to take place throughout the year and to act as a central hub for sporting excellence.
With over 40 sports available throughout the School week and at weekends, participation is at the heart of the sporting offering. Saturdays often involve over 45 teams and 750 students, with over 1,500 fixtures taking place over the course of the year. Future projects are continuously being reviewed by the School to further improve its indoor and outdoor facilities, and continue to be a leading sports school.
Indoor Facilities
SPORTS HALL
A state-of-the-art sports centre with movable walls, seven badminton courts, six indoor cricket lanes with full run-ups and a variety of bowling machines, a full basketball court with an electronic scoreboard. There is a seating capacity for an audience of up to 2,000 thus enabling a series of whole-school events to take place, and also hosts the National Indoor Hockey competitions.
SWIMMING POOL
A 25m, 8 lane swimming pool with a variable-depth, and performance screen. Swimmers have 14 hours of training per week available to them before and after school and students can also participate in up to five hours of Water Polo training per week.
MARLAR HALLS
The Marlar Halls are a multi-purpose facility which can be split into two functioning rooms for use for a range of sports, which include Fencing , Table Tennis, Judo, and also for function rooms.
FITNESS SUITE (GYM) AND ELITE PERFORMANCE CENTRE
A gym containing aerobic equipment, free weight and fixed weight areas.
CLASSROOMS
There are three classrooms available for use in the Sports Centre.
PHYSIO TREATMENT ROOM
Students can benefit from an onsite physio treatment room which is staffed three days a week.
SQUASH COURTS
Four glass backed Squash Courts with retractable walls for multi-purpose use.
SUBBA ROW ROOM
The Subba Row Room is a conference room located within the Sports Centre. This room is used for 1 to 1 meetings, video analysis, team meetings and A Level presentations.
Whitgift Sports Club
Whitgift Sports Club (Old Whits) is based in South Croydon, offering additional first class sporting facilities available to pupils. Students can benefit from two more cricket squares, two football pitches and two rugby pitches.

WHITGIFT SCHOOL
Situated in south of London, Whitgift provides a stimulating environment for academic and personal growth with breathtaking grounds, splendid buildings, and state-of-the-art facilities.
RUGBY PITCHES
There are two hybrid Rugby pitches with three further grass pitches. In 2023, the School installed flood lights on Big Side allowing access to training in the darker months, but also to enable opportunities for the Whitgift community to get together and watch matches in support.
FOOTBALL PITCHES
There are multiple grass Football pitches, junior, intermediate and full sized.
CRICKET SQUARES
Whitgift is privileged to have had several international teams play at the School grounds over the years.
CRICKET SQUARES AND NETS
There are five cricket squares available to use in the summer, and a Cricket Pavilion is situated close to the main school entrance. There are 10 grass nets and nine astroturf nets.
ASTROTURF
A full sized water-based astroturf for high-performance Hockey.
TENNIS COURTS
There are 11 Tennis courts available to students.
ATHLETICS
In the summer a grass track is marked out, supplementing the jump areas and throwing cage.
OUTDOOR SHOOTING RANGE
An eight bay outdoor shooting range.
GOLF FACILITY
An onsite golf facility with bays, chipping green, bunker and putting green.
