Jamal Musiala

Jamal Musiala - (Attended Whitgift: 2014-2017)

In March 2017, Jamal Musiala played his last match for Whitgift in the U15 ISFA National Final. In the six matches leading to this 3-1 win, Jamal scored an impressive 17 goals, an indication of his Football talent. Four years later, Jamal is currently the third youngest scorer (and first youngest Englishman scorer) in the UEFA Champions League history, aged just 17 years and 363 days – two days before his 18th birthday! An excellent achievement attributed to his hard work and commitment from such a young age.

Whitgift’s Director of Football, Mr Martin, described Jamal as “a very quiet, polite and well-mannered pupil who did well academically, but came to life on the football pitch, becoming a standout performer as well as role model for his teammates and classmates.” He added, “In his three years at the School, Jamal amassed 122 goals and played in four National Finals winning three of them. Jamal loved playing for the School and rarely, if ever, missed a training session, let alone a match.”

Upon leaving Whitgift at the end of Third Form, Jamal joined Chelsea Football Club’s full-time programme for two years, and in 2019 moved on to play for Bundesliga Club, Bayern Munich. In addition to becoming the third youngest scorer in the UEFA Champions League, he was part of the Bayern squad to lift the Bundesliga title and also played his part from the bench in helping Bayern secure the FIFA World Club Championship.

Whitgift is extremely proud of Jamal not only for his footballing achievements to date but for the determination and character he shows when overcoming challenges presented to him. He certainly is a wonderful role model for our current students demonstrating anything can be achieved with a selfless and diligent approach.
