Shaping the future, one boy at a time

Academic study, co-curricular opportunity and pastoral care come together at Whitgift to create a learning environment in which students broaden their horizons and pursue their interests.

Co-Curricular programmes may be similar, but we are absolutely different.

Alistair Osborne Assistant Head, Co-curricular

At the heart of our co-curricular experience, formulated and organised to nurture, inspire and challenge students, are our outstanding facilities and passionate, dedicated staff. Our approach to building exceptional relationships and a caring community is fundamental to the individualised care and learning of each student, providing each one with a unique journey.

A challenging and appropriate programme for every student

David Aboagye

Our extensive programme fosters curiosity, confidence and independence, encouraging all students to try something new. Students start school life learning to fence, receiving golf lessons and a term of music lessons. A unique two-hour lunch break in the Lower First and First Form, and the organisation of their day, gives them space to discover new activities which often take them out of their comfort zone.

Many will encounter plenty of new firsts:  from the First Form performance in the Autumn Collection Concert to baking bread in cookery club.

Our focus on Performing Arts ensures that boys have the opportunity to explore their creativity; taking part in singing, dancing, acting and performing as part of their overall programme.

My son had never expressed an interest in acting before he arrived at Whitgift, so the entire family were shocked when he landed a role in the Junior Years Play. He loved it and I'm so grateful to his teachers for helping to support him in finding his passions.

WHITGIFT SCHOOL CURRENT PARENT (2020)

As they advance through Whitgift, interests develop into passions. Experiences shape values that act as their compass in relationships, their decision making and choices as they navigate school life. They learn to understand and appreciate the value in community and giving, achieving an appropriate balance between success and caring for others.

Doing the right thing, when nobody is watching

Success is not directly pursued but will often be the outcome of learning to work hard and applying dedication to the task in hand. Giving things a go is very much the norm and fosters a love of learning with many achieving more than they ever imagined.

Talent sets the floor, but character sets the ceiling

Our activities can be viewed in full within our Co-curricular Directory and are grouped by Form group and category.
