Bursaries

Boys can have the opportunity to come and thrive at Whitgift regardless of their background and finances should not be a barrier to making an application.

Whitgift offers bursaries to applicants up to 110% of the fee amount - that’s 100% of tuition fees covered as well as support with school uniform, school lunches, travel on the school buses and money towards the cost of school trips.  Bursary amounts are means-tested and dependent on a family's individual financial circumstances.

Whitgift receives £2.15m from John Whitgift Foundation each year which enables means-tested bursarial support for around one in ten of our 1,500 students. However, our Whitgift For All campaign, launched in May 2022, aims to initially raise an additional £5 million for the School’s bursary scheme – enough to provide 110% bursaries for a further seven talented boys in perpetuity.

These bursaries benefit our whole School community by enhancing academic and wider curricular standards and continuing to make Whitgift a more socially cohesive community. Bursaries also reinforce the aspirational and inclusive nature of our School.

Not all families who financially qualify will be offered a bursary as we have a generous but limited budget.  Bursaries are means-tested and based on both financial need and highest performance on the entrance exams.

Whitgift School has opened my eyes to the fact that if I’m willing to work hard there is no limit to what I can achieve. When you are in an environment where the people around you are achieving great things, it inspires you to go ahead and do the same
