Director of Studies

Hello! My name is Mario, born and raised in Great Britain and I am the Director of Studies at Whitgift Summer School.

My name is Mr Bellu and I was born and raised in Great Britain. Most of my life, however, has been spent within multi-cultural settings. It is for that reason that choosing the world of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages seemed like a fitting choice, and it has proven to be so over the last thirteen years. I have developed my skills by working in differing environments across the world ranging from China, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Russia and across mainland Europe to name but a few. I take great pride in having cultivated a varied cultural understanding which has massively aided my ability to positively lead diverse groups of individuals.

Perhaps more importantly, this life full of rich experiences, has enabled me to keep a fresh child-like enthusiasm for life. Yes, I do like to have fun while I learn! As an academic tutor I endeavour to bring even the dullest of content alive in a fun and bright manner, whilst maintaining the essential language point/skill of any given lesson aim. I believe this is an important skill to have as it aids greater motivation for all involved to develop. This is especially true during any summer learning programme, particularly in an environment which we have cultivated here at Whitgift International Summer School. One’s artistic self may be unleashed to engage in the wide-ranging activities which support the development of student on multiple levels. This is why Whitgift Summer School offers one of the best programmes available, with lots of opportunities for students to get involved and contribute at a creative, fun, personal level. These multiple platforms offer the chance to harness skills, whether it is taking centre stage in a drama production or offering your critical analysis during a debate – ample opportunities exist to aid in one's self discovery and development. That’s the summer school we promote and I do indeed look forward to returning to expand and develop the student experience here in 2023!

So here is to a fun, progressive and rewarding summer 2023 for all of us. I very much look forward to returning as the academic director and will be seeing you all soon!
