What are numbers? Do mathematicians invent maths, or are they more like explorers discovering something that is already there? How do you prove that 1 + 1 =2? Considering these sort of questions is one of the oldest parts of philosophy, but also an area which has developed significantly in modern times. In this session I will introduce you to some of the major issues in the philosophy of mathematics and how philosophers have tried to address them.
