A Thrilling Start to an Unforgettable Summer School Experience

Welcome to the official blog recounting the busy first day of the highly anticipated Whitgift Summer School in 2023! As students from around the world descended upon the inspiring premises, the day was full of energy, enthusiasm, and an array of thrilling activities. Let's read on about an incredibly fast-paced day!

Arrival from Across the Globe

At Heathrow and Gatwick Airports as well as London St Pancras International Train Station, groups of eager and excited students arrived ready to get involved in a transformative summer experience. Excitement filled the air as friendships began to form, reflecting the cultural diversity and global perspective. The Activity Team was busy preparing for the first arrivals and with the famous Whitgift Summer School flags proudly flying, it really only meant 1 thing: summer school had officially started!

Engaging Activities 

The Whitgift Summer School wasted no time in immersing the students in a various exciting activities. Once they had arrived and checked-in, it was time to immediately get involved in some activities. The students played basketball, badminton, table tennis, swing ball and undertook some arts and crafts. The students were also able to enjoy afternoon tea, which included sandwiches, scones, cakes and tea. This was a a nice way and easy way for the students to kick-start their summer experience

Time for a BBQ

As the sun started to go down, the students enjoyed a delectable barbecue feast in the picturesque Founder's Garden. Enclosed within the walled garden, the students enjoyed their food and began to get to know one another after a busy day, creating new international friendships with each other. They also met their British boys and girls from Whitgift School for the first time as well. 

An Enlightening Induction Evening

As the day slowly transitioned into the evening, the students gathered for an intriguing induction session. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as they received insightful information about the week ahead. Enlightening talks and interactive presentations acquainted the students with the immersive curriculum, cultural exchanges, and the enriching experiences awaiting them. The night finished with the students being placed in the houses and then enjoying some team building exercises.

Unpacking and Roommate Connections

With the day drawing to a close, the students returned to their new home, the boarding house, in order to unpack and get ready for bed. Excitement mingled with a hint of nervousness as they settled into their rooms and embarked on an adventure of forging connections with their roommates. Conversations flowed, laughter echoed through the halls, and a sense of camaraderie began to take root.
