Meet the Activity Team! Mr Graham Wardle!

Hello, my name is Graham. I am a Senior Activity Leader at Whitgift Summer School, and I am really looking forward to my 3rd summer working on this fantastic programme.

An international outlook
My professional background has always been in education. I have been an international schoolteacher and I currently work during the year giving technical advice and safety consultancy throughout Asia with my company Current-Trends. Over the past 35 years I have worked in leisure management, international education and outdoor learning. I’ve been a coach, manager, lecturer and senior development officer. With my background safety consultancy, it’s no surprise therefore that one of my roles at the summer school is health and safety focused: I coordinate the 2 excursions we go on every week and I also help with the Risk Assessments so that we can make sure that every child is safe during our activities and excursions. Our number one priority with the international students who visit Whitgift is their safety and welfare!

Action filled adventure
In terms of activities, I have a background in paddling, rafting, diving, trekking and climbing… in 45 different countries! I hold a British Mountaineering Council, Rock Climbing and Mountaineering awards, British Canoeing qualifications and am a keen and avid PADI Scuba Instructor.  I have also been instrumental in the development of outdoor learning in Asia, UK and Europe, along with the development of coach education schemes and outdoor risk management training. Again, it’s no surprise that I love leading the Survival Skills activity we run here at the summer school!

Looking towards a fantastic summer programme
I’m really looking forward to a happy & successful 2022 at Whitgift, as the world finally opens up and young English language learners and teenage English language learners can finally begin to travel the world again in full. Whitgift Summer School has so much to offer students in terms of activities and academies and I can’t wait to welcome them here.

Interesting Fact:   Graham “eats once a day”.  It starts at breakfast and finishes at bedtime!
